Weekend Recap: Heald the Back Pages, Woolley’s Mammoth PB Weekend

K&D Athletes once again spent the weekend making the extraordinary look ordinary…

Milton Keynes Marathon:
It’s a marathon so of course you can find a Heald. This time our very own Mary not only knocked 13 seconds off her Manchester time (3:10:36), to run 3:10:23… but finished THIRD in the Milton Keynes Marathon. What a run from Mary. *Standing Ovation*.

Mary’s run stole the show on Sunday and no doubt she’ll celebrate with a 90k jog home. Even when the guys smash it our women find a way to top the men at the moment. Our men are responding to the challenge though – and how!

Gary Polhill took it in good humour, his 17th place and massive PB of 2:53:02 would usually have got him a great punned headline. A superb run to cap off an outstanding spring from Gazza.

That now makes it SEVEN K&D men under 3 hours for the marathon. Most ever previously was five. It’s only just May. Can we hit ten by the end of the year?

John Garside rounded out our Milton Keynes trio with a successful 3:44:28 – only a couple of minutes shy of his 3:39:50 PB from 14th April.

Albert parkrun:
You wait ages for a new Sub-17 inductee and two come along in two weeks. Nick Woolley, at Albert parkrun in Middlesborough destroyed his PB (17:20) by 40 seconds to run a sensational 16:40. Another one of our gents with wings on his shoes right now.

Not to be outdone though his better half Jess knocked 41 seconds off her PB to run 20:10 and go oh so close to joining the women’s Sub 20 Club. They’re beginning to challenge the Sharp’s for fastest duo!

Long Meadow parkrun:
George de Bolla added to the big PB Jamboree by running 17:49 at Longmeadow parkrun. He might have gone quicker at Short Meadow parkrun.

Brueton parkrun:
Birmingham Uni Development Loanee Joe Read made a welcome return to Brueton and stretched out to a first place finish in 16:36. Just nipping N. Woolley for fastest K&D of the weekend. Behind him Gareth Wainwright ran 17:13 (of course) and Darren John shook the London Marathon rust out with a 18:27.

Mary Heald warmed up for her marathon with a 20:01 (of course she did) and first female. Siobhan Cotter ran an impressive 22:27. Fastest Irish shot-putter? and Louise Bell clocked 23:13 to round out the K&D Podium.

Carly Mitchell made her Brueton parkrun debut for K&D and 50 K&D turned out.

Arrow Valley parkrun:
Three K&D’ers were spotted near Redditch as Peter Austin (21:29), Jack Whitehouse (21:49) and Lynsey Drakeley enjoyed the lake-side two lapper.

Plymvalley parkrun:
Russell Singleton got a spot of tourism in as he ran 24:13 at Plymvalley

Torbay Veloparkrun:
David John just missed his PB as he ran 30:08 at Torbay, just 7 seconds shy of his best.

Sandwell Valley parkrun:
Three seems to be the magic tourism number as Lissy Calvert (31:20), Gail Partridge (31:37) and Penny Taylor (32:17) represented K&D across the other side of the city.

Swansea Bay parkrun:
Kay Adenipekun found himself in Wales, probably searching for Wales’ best donuts. He ran 22:53 in Swansea Bay.
