Congratulations to our hike-master and adventurer Pete Austin who took on the infamous Bullock Smithy. If you listen to Marathon Talk you’ll know all about The Bullock Smithy via Bob from Emmerdale who’s a big fan.
Pete managed to complete a 56.5 mile ultra trail race in the Peak District. (Fast and Flat? ha), Pete finished 43rd out of a starting field of 300 in a time of 13 hrs 45 mins. 13 Hours!!
Pete reports “Starting at midday meant an evening of 5 hours running in the dark on some treacherous Peak District tracks. Mix it all with 8100 ft of ascent (and also descent) made it a good little challenge with decent views.
Some unhappy cows didn’t take kindly to 300 runners crossing their fields, bitterly cold night temperatures brought out the shivers. There were great views when you could catch a glimpse – though you spent a good amount of time choosing which rocks to step on.”
Congratulations to Pete for completing the ridiculous march around Buxton.
Full weekend recap to come when i’ve recovered from yesterday’s long run…
