Midland XC Champs – Men’s Team 9th Overall

Over in Loughborough it was the wind-swept and claggy, leg sapping style of cross country. With a course of 12k and 3 laps there were long out and backs, short wooded sections, round a couple of fields, up one hill and across a car park. A choppy race.

Star of the show was our “special” show pony Chris “Kipchoge” Sharp. Rocking flourescent arm warmers not seen outside of a sub-2 attempt (or early 90s rave) Chris finished 32nd in the Midlands. There were great runs from Nick Woolley (112th) and Richard Dixon, who deployed the Dobby Shuffle to great effect (134th). Towering Duo Dave Carbutt and Daniel Mayes stormed though (138th/149th) . Paul Baker secured the club 9th place overall with an excellent 174th. Darren John trotted round with a 195th finish while Stuart Male rounded out the team on his K&D XC debut in 230th.

9th Overall is a superb achievement in the Midlands over the XC and the gents should all be pleased as a pug in a rug at that result.

Our women were represented by a sole performer, alas. Focus is on the next league fixture as our women try to achieve historically high league finishes. But with Nicky Evans supplementing her excellent Manchester Marathon training with a strong outing over the mud in Loughborough. Nicky finished 174th overall across the 8k.
