For Rachel’s masters at the University of Birmingham she is conducting some exciting performance enhancing research on endurance trained athletes and she would be delighted if you would be interested in taking part in her research. Rachel is studying the effect of 5 days of heat acclimation on performance.
Heat acclimation results in a number of physiological changes, including improved sweating response, better ability to regulate core temperature, lowered heart rate and increased blood volumes. These changes have been shown to improve performance in both hot and cool conditions. Therefore, this study would be an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to prepare for upcoming races during the summer months (Oh Hello Arden 9!).
For your participation, we will be able to provide you with accurate performance data (VO2max test) and we will be able to advise you of how best to use heat acclimation as a training and performance enhancing tool. There may also be the opportunity to extend the benefits acquired through heat acclimation through sauna/bathing.
