K&D Women Take MWCCL Div. 2 Title

Champions! K&D’s women finished an epic cross country league season in the finest of fashions as they stormed to multiple medals and an overall league title in the Midlands Women’s Cross Country League Div. 2.

The list of honours is extensive.
K&D Women won the league
K&D Masters Women finished 3rd Overall
Rachel Gifford finished 2nd Senior Woman Overall
Jane Evans won the Masters Championship

The final league fixture was finished as the season started – with a dominating K&D performance. Our women, numbers swelled as the title party started early, rolled into Gloucester with gold in their sights and left with more trinkets made of precious metals than Spanish conquistadors. A party atmosphere as Jane Evans won the race followed in third by Rachel Gifford.

Despite Rosie Marsh having a niggle and Flick having to step off course following a recent bout of illness K&D’s women still floated across the muddy course to a comfortable 2nd on the day. Our women scored a historically low 154ish points to win the title. That’s the lowest Div 2. winning score I could find on the Midland Counties website by almost 100 points. Dominant.

On the day the dynamic duo of Jane Evans and Rachel Gifford finished 1st and 3rd overall. Mary Heald and Monica Green could hardly be separated as they rounded out the K&D Title Winning Team on Saturday in 20th and 21st. A superb 19 women turned out on Saturday afternoon to enjoy the fun of lifting the title. The women of Division 1 will no doubt be casting glances towards the green and gold and wondering just how strong they’ll be next year.

From hardly being able to put a team out a few years ago to delivering a title winning season full of runners. The women even put 5 more runners out that the men on Saturday. It’s been a particular highlight to see the camaraderie and team spirit that has grown all year. Cross country is vital to improving your running, but more importantly it beings the club members closer together. The club committee are incredibly proud of both the competitive nature of our performances this year, but also the wonderful K&D Spirit shown.

With The National still to come it’ll be a party atmosphere on the K&D Fun Bus to Leeds on the 23rd. A few sore heads this morning as the celebratory prosecco flowed last night but every drop was well earned! Next year our K&D women will be taking on the likes of Birmingham Uni, Loughborough Uni and Birchfield Harriers. And they will be going toe to toe as equals with some of the top athletes in the country.
