Leamington 3000m – Open EventWed Sept 4th
We’re encouraging K&D to dip their toes into track running with the very friendly 3000m Open. The races are at Edmonscote Stadium, £5, All Abilities welcome (Heats graded on ability so you’ll be running with similar standard runners). Any 25min or quicker parkruns will be absolutely fine.

DASH Open – Sep 8th
INTRODUCING: The Brian Shepherd Mile – 2019’s DASH Open will see a new race being introduced in the memory of
Brian Shepherd. The money raised will be donated to charity. All age groups welcome, £4 per entry. The Dell Stadium, DY5 4NE

Edgar Nicholls 10,000m – Fri 30th Aug
25 laps. Bromsgrove & Redditch are putting on a 10,000m Track race for £6 at the Abbey Stadium Sports Centre, Redditch – a rare chance to run 10000m on the track.

Weekend Recap: Stratford Showers

Stratford Summer Six: A day of storms, showers, pelting cats and dogs didn’t stop the K&D’s Waterproof Wonders from smashing the six mile course and then hitting the pubs outside Mary Arden’s gaff.

Fresh from his strong 3000m track exploits Chris Sharp finished 2nd overall in a super 32:35. Hanging on his coat tails was Rob Michaelson-Yeates in 33:06 and Simon Bentley in 35:47 rounding out the K&D top-3.

For the K&D Women it was Rocket Rachel Gifford who stormed round in 36:27 for 2nd Woman. Flick Sharp joined in the quick sharp fun with a 39:03

Other notable results include Dan Mayes running in his green and gold vest for the first time clocking a super 39:21. Amanda O’Leary continued our stong women’s performances with 40:59. Geoff Lewis had a great sub-55 run

Brueton parkrun:
With a host of our finest resting ahead of Stratford Summer Six it was a quieter parkun on Saturday for K&D – although a host of fast interlopers did drop in due to local cancellations.

Gareth Wainwright ran 17:07 while Darren John ran 19:30 and Jonathan Randall made a welcome podium return in 19:31 – just nipping Stuart Male who ran 19:32. Close.

Magic Mary Heald ran 21:00 dead on the nose while Louise Bell’s 23’36 was good for second K&D. Jude Mansfield and Abeda Jama battled for the third podium sport with Jude coming out on top 25:06 to 25:34.

Carly Mitchell PB’d this week with an excellent 31:13. Top PB’ing Carly! Mary Heald ran her 100th parkrun. High Five!

Bushy parkrun:
We take our solemn duty to make our pilgrimage to the holy site of Bushy park very seriously in these parts and we’re delighted Russel and Tracy Davies made the journey to pay homage to PSH and The parkrun Tree. They ran 30:20. And then sacraficed a goat.

Bedfont Lakes parkrun:
Two great things. Beds and Fonts. Combine to make Bedfont lakes parkrun. Rob Ambrose ran 20:21. He gave them Hel-vetica.

Poole parkrun:
The notouriously quality Poole parkrun has special meaning for Marathon Talk listeners knowing it’s home to host Martin Yelling and regular contributor and super-hero Steve Way. Our own Mountain Man Tim Price clocked 20:16. He finished 39th – a sign of the quality of that parkrun’s front pack.

Huddersfield parkrun:
Manjit Uppal took on the Terriers in Huddersfield running 30:08.

Haverfordwest parkrun:
Steve Marks continued his UK tour with a 35:24

Falcarragh parkrun:
The names of these parkruns are getting more ridiculous by the week. Monica Green ran 26:26.

Babbs Mill parkrun:
From 50ish last week to 150 in it’s second week. Delightful to see! Anthony Dutton ran 20:59, Darren Maggs a 25:28.

Torbay parkrun:
Devon Correspondent David John ran 30:01. He should have ran faster really. Might have gone under 30 then.

Training: 12th-21st Aug

With Kenilworth Half coming up as we swing into Full and HM Season expect the focus of sessions to begin to prep you for these longer races.

Warwickshire 3000m Open Results

Darren John crashed The Sharpster’s date night as the three amigo’s headed over to Leamington for the Warwickshire County 3000m open races. £5 entry. No frills. Three heats with all abilities. Slowest time in Heat 3 was 14:32 for 3k – 25min parkrun pace. Suitable for most club runners.

Darren and Flick were in Heat 2. The fun of track racing is how you get dragged along and 7 1/2 laps of a 3k can feel incredibly long despite it only being a few minutes effort. Its a weird sensation, painful but pleasurable (like that weekend you spent in the Berlin leather dungeon with Torsten).

It’s also a great ‘training’ session. And a way to break up your usual routine. An open track 3000m is a super introduction to the oval and it’s also brilliant for your parkrun training. Sitting on the red-line and testing yourself for a 3/5ths of a 5k. Less fun is being beaten by an U17 girl but we won’t mention that.

Darren ran 10:30.84 – his fastest 3k split for a year – and Flick clocked a PB of 20+ seconds by running 11:14.82.

In the ‘Elite’ Heat the fast guys tore round. Chris Sharp, fresh from running 9:00.87 at Birmingham Uni Relays on Friday had a tougher race, running solo for 5 laps in 6th place. He dug in for a 9:16.65 though. His 9.00.87 by the way currently ranks him 25th V35 in the UK.
